LatinJazz en Iowa?............. Claro! Alto Maiz

Es Increíble pensar que algo que empezó como un humilde, pero divertido proyecto de la Escuela Superior Hill Festival de las Artes en la Universidad de Northern Iowa en 1986 se ha convertido en un conjunto realmente único en el corazón de Estados Unidos y mas increíble que hayan surgido en una tierra sin ningún tipo de tradición salsera (a al menos con influencia de salsa y latin jazz).

Y a eso hay que agregarle que ya se han paseado por medio mundo llevando su música, pero lo que realmente sorprende es la calidad de interpretación de los diferentes ritmos que tocan (merengue, samba, cha-cha-cha, salsa, calipso, y boleros. Además de latín-jazz).

A 23 años de su creación han lanzado al mercado su producción mas reciente (Live on Fire) que contiene temas hechos en el pasado pero también nuevas canciones que incluyen composiciones de Rebeca Mauleon, Dizzy Gillespie entre otros.
Pensando en la posibilidad que en algún momento, podamos apreciar estos músicos en tarima, traigo para su evaluación el trabajo de 1999 -Live at Montrux-. Particularmente es un trabajo que aprecio mucho, pues tiene interpretaciones muy interesantes de covers muy famosos e importantes como Kinkamanche (ganador de Grammy) de Eddie Palmieri o Summertime de George Gershwin pero manteniendo su propia linea ademas de tener temas originales como Coalescencia, en pocas palabras................escúchenlo!
